Steam Sucks - Bad software - STEAMing Pile of shit! - Counterstrike, Modern Warfare, Team Fortress 2, etc

March 2008
Valve - Steam Sucks

Steam? What is it?

Steam is a so-called 'platform' for subscribing to computer games. Why is it called a subscription service? The answer is that you pay a once-off fee to steam/valve to maintain the game. If you have no internet connection, then you won't be able to connect to steam's auentication servers which means bad luck to you.

In its first incarnation, it made for one of the most horrid gaming experiences. Countless crashes, connection and 'authentication/ticket' issues, forced updates, etc all made it unusable at one stage or another.

So if it's so bug-ridden and breaks all convention, why do so many people use it? Because of Valve's iron-fisted monopoly! It's like how everybody hates Microsoft, but they still use it. At least with operating systems you have another choice such as Linux. But with steam platform games, such as Counterstrike, you have no choice but to steam it up!

The problems with Valve's silly application, SteamingPileOfShit

Breaks all UI conventions

Not everyone has the default blue Windows XP luna theme!
If people are successfully filing complaints about the unusability of websites, then why is steam allowed to get away with non-standard UI controls? Some of their dialogue boxes are not even keyboard accessible.

Yes, we all know that this is a game, and games are allowed to employ custom UIs, right? Wrong! Steam, for the most part, is usually running in the background (when you're not playing any game). Thus it is a 'Windows' application. As such, it should follow the proper UI conventions. Why re-invent the UI by making it use non-standard colors, or make pushbuttons look different to the standard ones used by 99.9% of all other windows applications?

Why do the windows now fade in and out?!?! When I want to close a window, I want it to dissapear immediately, like other normal windows. Don't want any of this bullshit fadeout crap.

Forced updates

Updates are forced onto you, no matter what!

I wanna play now! Not update the silly thing!

You are at the mercy of valve's developers. All updates are forced onto you. There is no escaping this.

At least with MS windows, the most widely used software, allows you to update it when you please. Windows is used for all purposes - even mission critical business applications. And you can choose not to update windows at all if you so wish. In fact I have rarely ever updated windows, and yet, the software remains fairly stable (quite remarkably).

But take steam on the other hand. Every now and then it will complain about needing to update. It won't even let you play any of your subscribed games untill you let it do its updates. This draconian approach is all but grudgingly accepted by players.

Ready to play Counter-Strike in 8 minutes!?!?! Why bother?
For instance, perhaps one day you fired up steam to have a quick online game. But steam wants to do a major update, and you are forced to wait anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes for the updates to download. This detracts from the desire to play. Worse still, there is an advert - fancy paying a subscription and having to put up with more advertising!

If Microsoft forced automatic updates on its Windows users, everyone would be up in arms, bitching and moaning. And there'd probably be some other alternative operating system that people would move over to. Not so with the Steaming Pile of Shit - it's either put up, or shut up.

Contrast this with your car. Should you be forced to have it serviced immediately the next service date is due, no matter what, even though you needed to go to work or some other important trip? Of course not! You'd put off the servicing until the next most convienent time, or have it serviced in advance. And yet, somehow, players are accepting of this 'forced updates' practice. We all accept it the way it is, like in 1984, how the proles never question Big Brother.

The most error prone application

The classic problem with steam

The 2007 award for the most error prone, commercial/widespread application goes to STEAM(ing Pile Of Shit)

Out of all the regularly used and/or widespread computer software, steam wins the award for being the most unreliable and error-prone. It is almost a guarantee for anyone who has ever used steam before to experience a crashed (aka not responding) application.

How am i supposed to know that wasn't already running?
All the 'improvements' and updates mean nothing as long as steam crashes once out of every 20 times you use it. It would have been much preferred if valve could have spent more development time on reliability rather than making the thing look fancy (see 'Breaks all UI conventions' above).

An even more insidious problem is trying to recover from these software crashes. Suppose one of the games crashed. You then try running it again, and guess what - steam tells you it is still running! Needless to say, to most users, this means a reboot or a trip to the task manager to kill off the offending crashed steam application.

Valve U.S.A. developers are full of themselves

USA flag does not equal English!!! What if I live in the UK or Australia? What do I choose???
English does not imply the stars and stripes. After all, English was named after the country of its origins. Worse still, the list is supposed to be sorted alphabetically, and yet, English (along with the flag they're so patriotic about) is placed right at the top. For people living in other English-speaking countries (such as the UK or Australia), it can cause confusion. To prevent this, the valve developers should have included an 'International English' option.

You see, the north Americans choose bigotry over form and convention. Kind of like 'It's our way, or the highway'. They may not realise it, but small things like this can offend non-Americans.

Love watching you bitch and moan :)
Andrew, Fri, 24 Apr 2015 02:37 pm:
He does have a point, and He is justified for being angry. I mean people paid for those games, but this third-party Steam gets to decide whether or not you get to use something that you paid for. I was thinking of getting Napoleon Total War, but then I did some research and found out about Steam.
Anonymous, Mon, 12 Dec 2016 04:37 am:
Lmao nothing else, just saying that? Get over it fucking idiot. IT's the internet lol.
douchebag, Fri, 11 May 2018 12:05 pm:
steam is stupid because if i pay for a game i should be able to play it whenever i want no matter what but every time i open a game steam has to fucking update and it takes an hour by the time it is done at that point i am not even interested in the game and recently all my games stopped working you know what fuck steam i am never buying another steam game again honestly fuck steam

Only one of your arguments i can agree with (Forced updates). the rest of them are either made up, or just bad attempts at finding an excuse to hate steam.
John, Thu, 02 Apr 2015 02:00 pm:
WTF, what about the bugs?
Forgot them?
bad bones, Sat, 04 Mar 2017 02:13 pm:
who needs an excuse
Doctor Fairlight, Fri, 08 Dec 2017 12:02 pm:
Steady on! No one needs an excuse to hate Steam. I utterly agree with him. 9 years on it's still a cumbersome & intrusive pile of shit.

trik, Tue, 15 Dec 2009 09:46 am:
steam does suck cock totaly ruind mw2 in my eyes
Rinkin57, Fri, 01 Apr 2011 06:26 am:
If you want to get steam to stop being so greedy then then boycott them. Hit them in the wallet. Steam is ruining the right to resell your used game.

Anonymous, Tue, 29 Dec 2009 11:23 pm:
Goddamit what if you lose your acc, you would be able to play your games anymore, you know.
steam sucks at all.
Bullshit, Tue, 26 Apr 2016 04:51 am:
My hard drive crashed and along with went my email and steam acct. Thought no big deal, I have the disk. I never play on line. I tried to install the game and couldn't as they said it was duplicate product code. My email I had is gone. Basically, Sega rips you off if there is any glitch. You buy a product you can't use. Steam and Sega are shit for this. Never buy a sega game again. They can go fuck themselves. They are just corporate thieves.

Anonymous, Wed, 03 Feb 2010 12:52 pm:
I like how steam wont update and cant seem to log on so now I can't play any of the games I paid for. Seriously, why I do I even pay for games. It just keeps telling me its having trouble with the servers. Or maybe it'll just try to login for an hour. God DAMN YOU STEAM. POS software.

Ultra.x, Thu, 11 Feb 2010 10:10 am:
COD6 on PC uses steam, its a carm peaceful game to play after getting 20 messages saying, unable to connect ot host(why can they host it then for f*** sake), unable to migrate(usless and changing host, fuc* me !!), steam has lost connection(the doom message, it just wont work, restart the fuc*ing computer.) 1/12 atepts to join a game will succeed.

STEAM IS SH*T !!!
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:18 pm:
What is losing connection is your shit internet connection not steam.
COD6 is shit. I don't see how Steam could have made it worst.
Thats just like saying: GAMES R BAD CUZ THE GAME STORE CLOSES.
anti92, Fri, 14 Mar 2014 06:27 am:
Actually replying to pee pee's msg.. are you fucking retarded? Seriously, his inet connection is shit? If the store closes??? WTF are you talking about moron, Steam will NOT connect with a perfect fucking connection. I check the inet every time, 99.9% is Steam being a useless piece of mother fuckin mistake cake. All other pieces (games) are tainted.

Zonzai, Wed, 24 Feb 2010 12:30 pm:
I've never played a game that uses steam without encountering problems. I swear it must be coded by monkeys. Actually, I usually buy the games I play but to save myself the headache of steam, I downloaded pirated copies of games that require it. Now, usually I'm against doing this but I refuse to put up with STEAM. It never fails to make me regret using it.

DINOBYTE, Wed, 03 Mar 2010 04:30 am:
I agree STEAM SUCKS BIGTIME and I will never again buy any other game that require it that is 100%!
zach, Wed, 16 Jun 2010 10:08 am:
i agree boycott the fags

Jonathan, Thu, 04 Mar 2010 11:13 pm:
And.. just try to get tech support from Steam. It is fair to say that problems will come with any community gaming platform of scale. But when the problems arise (crap hits the fan) Steam is nowhere to be found. No tech support phone line. All is done through forums and email. Last download purchase I made was totally dysfunctional; contacted Steam, took them 9 days to get back to me, first line of the email – WE DON’T GIVE RETURNS ON DIGITAL PURCHASES. I didn’t ask for one, not that I didn’t want one! They were no help, in fact they all but admitted that they do not give user level tech support and that the software is sold “as is” and that I was on my own. Great business model there guys… and hey, just lost another customer, but no fear, there are plenty of other suckers out there, right?

MDKiryu, Fri, 12 Mar 2010 05:53 am:
Completely stupid software...

I buy a game, I bring game home, I put disc in computer, I install game..........and wait several hours for Steam to let me play the damn thing.

Who gave them the right to decide when my game is "ready to play"?
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:19 pm:
They have the right to decide when the game is "Ready to play" because it is there game you just bought off them you idiot.
Also, If it doesn't update automatically then everyone and all servers will have update and you will have an old version not letting you play with anyone because you are un able to. You stupid tosser.

Razor, Wed, 17 Mar 2010 06:34 am:
Maybe if you only had to register games purchased in an actual stor I could understand but f the disc is only a shell that allows you to install throu steam! what a pile of shit!

Anonymous, Thu, 25 Mar 2010 08:08 am:
Steam is a pile of shyte!just bought supreme commander 2. stuck it on and still waiting to play it 3/4 hour later!!!there downloading updates for it! ITS A NEW DISK BOUGHT TODAY!!

nick, Wed, 31 Mar 2010 09:37 pm:

ioletsgobitch, Sun, 25 May 2014 12:59 pm:
Steam is so goddamn useless. Those faggots at Valve are a bunch of failed abortions that have lived it and their mothers should be beaten to death along with their fucking goddamn offspring.
Fuck Steam, Fri, 10 Jul 2015 07:49 pm:
@Pee_Pee - even when you hit the offline button you still have to be connected to the internet you dumb fuck fan boy you probably wank over steam

STEAMSUCKS, Mon, 12 Apr 2010 03:43 pm:
STEAM FkING SUCKS, OMG it fcking takes 2 hours to play a new game you buy because their fcking system sucks dck trying to INSTALL the game. FFS I JUST BOUGHT THE GAME TO PLAY YOU DIPSHTS. Let my fcking computer install the cd from the FCKING CD THAT I PAID FOR. Instead of this fcking 2 hours of DOWNLOAD FROM UR FCKING GAY AZS SYTEM.

FUUUUSTEAM, Tue, 04 May 2010 03:22 pm:
Steam is horrible, i will not buy another Steam game. the forced downloads are stupid and people without the internet are stuffed if they want to Start the games, but so far i can live with that. but what really makes me hate steam is the way they have killed Lan play with siblings. i liked games back in the day, where you could install a game on 3+ computers on 1 cd key, for example H.A.W.X (not steam) doesnt require a Key code UNLESS your playing online, which is fair enough, you pay to play online, but lan is free and doesn't require a Keygen, now CoD MW2 is a different story, i bought it and wanted to play land with my brothers, i figured it would require along the same lines as CoD 4 or WaW(5) a Keygen and just 1 copy of the game to install but no, Steam expects me to buy 5 fucking copy's of a 100$ (Australian) game. i dont wanna spend 500$ just for a lan game every now and then and online multiplayer maybe once every 2 weeks. its fun Multiplayer but not 500$ worth of fun, Same goes for other steam games not just MW2, left for dead 2 = same story, AVP = Same story after that i stoped buying steam games, i never even bought CSS (olny found out about it after i played MW2 had a shit Pc for a long time)

so from now on if steam brings out a game i want to play, ill just download it(they want you to anyway) and crack it, so it doesnt need steam to run.

/rant.

SteamHater, Wed, 05 May 2010 06:54 am:
Sometimes it connect in less than a minute, but most of the time it take MUCH longer, like 15 minutes, sometimes even ONE HOUR. I wonder what it does during this time, sometimes I just watch the Task manager and see Steam growing every 10 seconds by few kb, from 40mb to 150mb..A SHAME.

This software use 150 mb or my ram, and it does nothing but checking if my game is legal and up to date. What a waste. I wish I could teach Steam "developpers" how to code efficiently.

Not to say the constant crashes: I start steam, start a game, play one hour or so, then one hour later I try to play again, it doesn't work, I need to restart Steam which most of the time doesn't work (or take 15 minutes or more to connect), and I need to reinstall Steam.

And don't ever try to click too fast on Steam buttons, it will crash, guaranteed. I think they use apes as beta testers (if it's ever tested).

Fucking piece of shit software.

"The ultimate online gaming platform".. my ass. I never saw such a shitty software in my entire life.

Another problem, sometimes it change the language of my games and redownload the new sounds. OBVIOUSLY, it doesn't keep the old sounds so I need to change the language and redownload all sounds anyway. When you don't have a fast internet, it's really a pain. Simple crappy solution, make a copy of the steamapps folder, as a backup in case of steam failure (which happen once every 2 weeks)..

Hopefully now I have downloaded illegal NO-STEAM versions of games that I own, and even games that I don't own to be honest. "You steal my time, I steal your games".

THE BEST SHITTY SOFTWARE EVER.

I recommend anyone who don't have a steam account already, to NEVER buy a game which use Steam. Instead, I encourage you to download a NON-STEAM version of those games.
Manuel Sv, Wed, 03 Nov 2010 06:13 pm:
1st and fu*ing last time i ever buy a gad Dawn game with this sh!tty ass F*king Steam CRAP.!!!
Nothing but a waste of time! I dont give a damn about playing onlien I bought a CD to play on my PC, and Iam stuck dealing with this phantom shit ass company online playing their stupid update shit!! Gad fu*king damn it! Let me play my fu*king game and fu*ck the Fu*k Off Ass*holes!

pez, Tue, 11 May 2010 07:49 pm:
i only use it to play tf2 and classic cs, and to be honest its nice that it patches it for you and you avoid all the shit we used to have to go through back in the days of the first half life mods..

on the other hand i can see how it fucking blows for people buying games in shops that require you to install and update it. also its fucking total fucking bloatware especially as i only play one game on it. why does it default to starting with windows when the login screen alone uses a whole shitload of memory (for some reason???). also its annoying seeing over 9000 adverts for other games ill never ever ever buy (and waiting for all that bollocks to load) when i just want to start tf2.

SC2, Wed, 26 May 2010 05:00 am:
It is a steaming piece of shit! I bought SC2 to play offline and now I can't update/play at all. It hosed my account. I want to play SC2. Want nothing to do with steam/valve shitheads. Never buying any game that touches this crap again.
MiguelSanchez, Sun, 08 May 2011 02:08 pm:
I lol'd starcraft 2 is only available on battle.net and the only way too get it anywhere near steam is to add it as a non-steam game and when you do that it just makes a shortcut through steam that allows you to use the steam overlay in-game.

zach, Wed, 16 Jun 2010 09:14 am:
i bought a game i loved even though it was old i was so happy until i installed it only to find out you need enternet which i dont have in my area in fl and it was all because of fuuuuu-kkkkkkkkkkk-iiiiii-nnnnnn-gggggggggg gd steam how gay are those fu-cking thives if they ever meet me they will never forget or forgive me they will see the he-ll they put me through ten fold and if u are reading this and did not buy a steam bought game trust me not worth the s-hit u put up for the money ...... s.t.e.a.m s(hit t(rash e(nternet based a(ssholes m(onsters formed from gd f-uking sh-it not worth the ground a horse s-hits on.... steam go f-uck yourselves you faggots not worth the games u r-apped
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:23 pm:
His just sad his beloved PSN went down and steam didn't.

Maybe you should get Anon to take out Steam like they did PSN. That will work for sure...

Flatus, Mon, 21 Jun 2010 04:09 am:
Steam is a shitty concept, shittily executed.
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:22 pm:
You have no reason to believe that.
Your argument is invalid.

Drux, Tue, 22 Jun 2010 07:29 am:
In my opinion Steam was almost good until the UI update. That fucked up the program.

Alex, Wed, 23 Jun 2010 06:38 pm:
Steam has its place, it's for people too young to know how much better gaming was without online DRM, and too dumb to buy a game and get a crack yourself so when Steam goes down you still have a copy and can actually play it WHENEVER YOU WANT.

Steam really hooks people with cheap games and a simple one-stop downloading site, but you're really just renting the games and it's all tied to your account. When that's gone, so is everything you paid for.
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:26 pm:
Question:

Can you play online with your smart crack version?

No you can't.

KthxBye.

GEORGIK, Sat, 17 Jul 2010 09:55 pm:
i couldn't of said it better
i'm glad everyone agrees
fuck steam
fuck valve

William, Fri, 30 Jul 2010 08:43 am:
Steam represents everything that is now wrong with the internet. It's corporations and governments forcing control and influence into the media.

I feel privileged to have lived in the hayday of the internet where the exchange of information was not censored but sadly that time has passed.

Cheaters in games during the early 2000's existed but were at the mercy of server admins now thanks to steam they're pandemic.

Basically STEAM = Fucking power hungry dicks
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:25 pm:
Was not censored.
Where the hell do you live? China?
No one other than China have that.
Open your eyes and check your Nasi Goreng dumb arse.

WE ARE GOING BACKWARDS INTO THE DARKAGES NOT FORWARDS INTO EXCELLENT SASSY TECHNOLOGY!!

after a pisstake hour downloading mafia2 pc demo, through what felt like a fucking snail crawling back & forth across the world hand delivering me parts of the file.

after waiting for snails to buggeroff so steam can take the piss for another while installing said demo.

only to start the game by clicking the LAUNCH DEMO icon ingame menu,

to then not be greeted by the game but my FUCKING DESKTOP after it CTD.

FUCK STEAM,FUCK MAFIA2,and FUCK YOU SNAIL'S..

next step.

1.make a full backup of steam & shit mafia2 demo to a cd.

2.find a nice thick rigid bubbled layerd postage bag.

3.place previously burned cd & place in postage bag (but do not seal).

4.after a good filling meal take shit in postage bag, seal, then post to steam offices.

wankers.

Bye something better than dial-up you dero.

psilas, Sat, 14 Aug 2010 05:10 pm:
Agree completely but the saddest thing is there are SO many people praising Steam, most of them 14 years old I'm sure, totally brainwashed.

These kids are sure fire targets for the Verichip when that piece of shit comes out.

Steam = Verichip of the gaming world.

Avoid both at all costs.

Skelebob124156, Mon, 16 Aug 2010 11:53 pm:
Steam is complete shit why the fuck do I need a internet connection to play games! That is fucking retarded (with the exception of MMo's obviously). I wanted to buy Fallout New Vegas later this year guess what FUCKING STEAM ONLY WTF?!??!?!? It's a bloody single player game! Why do I need the fucking internet. Steam has ruined PC gaming how many new games have I bought this year? 2 Yeah fucking 2 and were almost at the end of the year! I haven't bought a Valve game since Blue shift it's a disgrace since they make great games even if they piss all over their customers
.
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:33 pm:
If you wanna play without internet hit offline version.

And you didn't buy it cos it was on steam? We don't care. We still get to play the game and you don't.

Rich B, Thu, 26 Aug 2010 01:06 am:
Having always been a big console gamer i thought I'd have another look at PC gaiming since i just bought a nice Phenom II.
Popped in to town bought FM2010 (i.e i BOUGHT IT, its on the cd in the box i have in my hand, the cd that I now own the right to install and use),

I go to install and.. wait whats this bollocks? It wants to download the game via Steam??? WTF for, i already have, own and bought the game? Its IN THE FUCKING D: drive.
So there goes that, cant wait to play, rush home moment when you first buy a game and cant wait to play. With Steam you might as well go on holiday and come back in a few weeks when its hopefully finished downloading, assuming youre lucky enough that it doesnt disconnect 7 times during this stupid ass download like mine did. Which then meant i had to start again from the beginning every time.

I like to fire up a quick game sometimes before i go to work of a morning. Trouble is, with Steam you can forget it, takes for-fucking-ever just to get steam going let alone just play the god damn game. WTF are you connecting to Steam for?!?!?! I dont give a fuck about STEAM, just play the god damn fucking game you twat. I dont have all fucking day. You just have to pray theres no update available else you may as well come back after work.

To sum up.. Steam is fucking shit. plus all the other negatives already mentioned a million times over. Fair play to ANYONE that now goes and buys illegal copies of games as thats the only way you get to play in peace. As for me, well Ill just go back to my Xbox as theres no fucking way im putting up with this Steam shit.

My own dealings with steam have been shitty at best, will never support them again. I'm willing to support a warez gaming service through subscription. just to spite valve and other shitty developers. Will pay through paypal
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:35 pm:
Oh yeah. Paying for warez. Sounds legit.
Why don't you just torrent it?
And I'm sure Valve will care. Only person that will care is the Media Protection agency.
=O PAYPAL!? OH MAH GOSH! Cos steam doesn't have Paypal.

Pissed off, Sat, 28 Aug 2010 08:21 pm:
Mafia 2 took me 3 fucking hours to install!!! And the steam install crashed three times!!! What a piece of shit! I'm not buying another steam game as long as I live! I will however pirate it with great glee.

I have been downloading .5 of a KB to play T.F.2 which was working I might ad! I am stuck at 8.319.3 MB I need 8.319.8 MB for nearly 2 months thats after I had to copy paste someones Steam U.I Zip over my own because it would get stuck at 45%, that only took me about 1 month to get to work. I work everyday besides Sunday . All I want to do is come home and relax with a game I brought on launch day so many years ago at full price to support and hopefully play further incarnations of Half Life which I have .H.L episode 1 and 2 brought on launch. Can you please have the decency to make mine and others like me that work and pay for the great games you make work without so much issues and if you are going to lay a program on me i.e Steam, that we have to have to play online with other people make sure it WORKS and if it does not REMOVE IT please or make it simple to fix?!I am aware that for the most it works fine for many people out there and when it does do that it works great .Just make it work for me and others! and consistently please !
Much regards .

Fucking steam sux the sweetcorn out of my shit.
Dragon Age keeps needing to be reinstalled wtf asshole company, going to buy games from local store now fuck you STEAM
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:39 pm:
DragonAge bought from steam didn't work.
Pay extra $30 to get retail version.
Retail is exactly the same game just on a disc and more expensive. Runs exactly the same.

-Facepalm-
Yummy, Tue, 26 May 2015 04:45 am:
Actually wrong, you buy a game from the stores and it does't work, you can return it for money or store credit. You buy a steam game that doesn't work, to bad for you. You lost your money.

Valve, Wed, 20 Oct 2010 01:52 pm:
Duplicate counter-strike key? How about zero resale value? How about worthless software? If you buy any products that use steam second hand you are fucked over. Imagine any other product anywhere that can't be sold again. Who would buy it? SOme would, but it's overall worth would be less. Boycott Sierra, Valve, Steam and give five bucks to pirate bay. Upload all related products to the usenet weekly. Lets make these bastards poor.
Pee_Pee, Sun, 08 May 2011 01:43 pm:
When you buy other games the CD Key only works once.
It's so other people have to buy a game.

Do you not know how game devs make money to make more games?

Lloyd, Thu, 04 Nov 2010 09:36 am:
Gotta admit... Even if the concept is ok, whoever coded steam should change careers-- like to a farmer or something. Most unstable software I've ever used

SPYWARE, Sat, 06 Nov 2010 11:15 pm:
Just a warning concerning something that happened to me, I have some games THAT I OWN THE CDS FOR but used cracks to play them easier and Steam sent me a notification that I was using illegal software for THEIR games and banned me.

I lost my account and $400+ worth of their games. Fucking slimy crooks.

Steam is indeed a Steaming Pile of Shit. Ruined New Vegas for me completely. Program wont run when i try to open it. Had to reinstall it and that meant the game all over again too. I know the people that created are downies but even downies have more sense than this

8bit, Mon, 22 Nov 2010 05:29 pm:
Fuck Steam and everything about it. Just a little rant here; When did people become such stupid rollover bitches that they'd support and even PRAISE the movement of invasive DRM?

These guys are why PC gaming is barely alive despite how much PC use has grown over the years. PC gaming will never die, but only because everyone already has a PC for other uses. And it will never grow when your best option is a shitty DRM client you have to run to play all games through.

huey, Sun, 28 Nov 2010 08:49 am:
LOL whiney brats. Steam is the best thing to happen to PC gaming. Ever.
If you have any REAL complaints, try emailing staff for quick replies, or for general questions try http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/, where some admins also work for Steam and have extensive knowledge.

This discussion is full of WIN.
I agree with most of the people here. Steam is a STEAMing pile of shit. Had to activate the games via Steam (the DVD boxes are just dust catcher now) and it downloads with 50 kb/s. And the forced updates suck ass.

Also I have to mention all the retarded users using it and saying Steam is awesome. No guys... it's SHIT!
It's programs like this that make me wanna play old classic games like FarCry and stuff having no shitty crashes and just pure fun and gameplay.
agree, Wed, 01 Dec 2010 03:42 am:
I think the reason you see so many little groups of Steam praising out there is because PC gaming has gone down hill over the years with less diversity (look, another FPS!) and shitty DRM everywhere but they WANT it to be the best so they need to constantly reassure themselves how awesome it is.

No other group of gamers talk so little about games and so much about where YOU should play them.

jak jones, Wed, 01 Dec 2010 10:08 pm:
Steam is so much fucking wank they should be shot

FUCK YOU STEAM! Burn in hell all steam management! NEVER BUY THE GAME WITH STEAM.

steamhater2, Sat, 18 Dec 2010 10:05 pm:
FUUUUUUCK! Yesterday I was downloading updates (almost 2 GB) all day long to the game called Napoleon (and I'm paying for every MB I've downloaded). Today I was so happy to play the game after all this steam shit and guess what. Steam says that the game is not ready to play OFFLINE becasue there is a new update (450 MB!)!!!! They should die in pain mutherfuckers

fucking pissed off, Mon, 20 Dec 2010 01:51 am:

pissed, Mon, 20 Dec 2010 10:02 am:
Will never purchase another steam game (what I told myself 3 years ago). 2 hours install of HL2 and my account is buggered up from a 3 year absence. No support for a simple fucking question and 25 emails in my inbox trying to get registered. Then have to create a new account to post a GD question. Forced online play so forget playing in a dry spot. fuck this stupid piece of shit--no wonder I never finished this game and only came back to play on a whim

megatron, Tue, 21 Dec 2010 01:52 pm:
Not surprising that I found this when I Googled Steam sucks. Looks like everyone else is having problems too...

These guys ripped me off for almost $200 USD because of some problem with my country's ISP they banned my account and won't answer my emails. Fucking typical greedy Americans. All hail the mighty dollar.

Barstool, Wed, 22 Dec 2010 08:41 pm:
I used to think Steam was awesome and convenient until they banned me for no reason and basically stole all my games that I paid for. I tried asking tech support what happened and they were dicks about it, saying it must somehow be my fault but they'd "look into it". Then they just stopped answering me. That was over a month ago.

And @huey a few posts up talking about reddit: that's a perfect example of how retarded and oblivious Steam users can be. Have you actually read reddit's gaming section? They are worse than 13yr olds on Xbox Live. That site doesn't even talk about games anymore, it's just sleezy marketing for Steam. Not a very good example if you're trying to make Steam look good.

Steam convinced me to buy a PS3 and holy fuck is it ever better. I'll come back to PC gaming when greedy assholes like Steam and their DRM aren't leading.

The Pirate, Thu, 23 Dec 2010 05:48 pm:
YO HO HO! I pirate all my games because Steam always treated me like a criminal anyway. Fuck your DRM.

My friend still uses steam and he once said I have no morals for pirating, so I told him I would (and did) give the money I save from pirating to charities instead. He still says he's the only one with morals because he gives all his money to Steam. Does Steam make people stupid or something?

Gabe Newell is like 500lbs anyway. Stop feeding Gabe, help feed some starving kids!
JJ, Tue, 28 Dec 2010 05:06 pm:
lol I completely agree. Fuck their DRM. Giving Steam money encourages PC games to spit in your face with DRM. I'd rather use cracks or pirate and put my money to better use. Steam has pretty much ruined PC gaming by making DRM the standard.

Mark, Fri, 24 Dec 2010 11:36 am:
There is no need to find an excuse to hate Steam. It is, quite simply, the worst thing to ever happen to PC gaming. Forced updates, bugs in Steam itself (not the games) that stop you playing, forced net connections, its enough to make you want to pirate games. Why am I paying for games that force me to use a service that spits in your face?

assholes, Mon, 27 Dec 2010 12:48 am:
ugh. since steam doesn't give a shit and won't respond to me, i have to resort to raging here with people who already know they're shit. their stupid online isn't working. i bought my brother some games and it keeps giving connection errors and saying it's too busy or some stupid shit. we keep having to redownload updates and patches and shit that never finishes and he can't even play the games i bought him. fuck you steam. you won't get any more of my cash, assholes.

Snake, Thu, 30 Dec 2010 05:26 pm:
the thing tht really pisses me off about steam is i cant even set a game up on 2 pcs in my own house to lan play without buying the game twice ive paid for the fucking game if i wanna put it on 2 pcs in my own home what gives them the right to say i cant

Perry, Mon, 03 Jan 2011 07:58 am:
Like most hyped up things you hear about online, steam was a huge letdown. In fact, it's such a headache, I have to wonder if anyone over 20-25 year old range uses it. I can't imagine that anyone who knows how simple and easy and FUN games were before DRM like steam would support their crap. Game developers complain that it's necessary to combat piracy, but I never pirated before online DRM like steam's was forced on me to play games.

Dave, Tue, 04 Jan 2011 02:59 pm:
Why do games companies PUNISH people who actually buy their games and drive them to piracy? I had no idea what Steam was when I bought Empire Total War and assumed that it was some option like GameSpy that I personally don't have time for.

But instead I am forced to use a program that slows down my laptop and illegally prevents me from reselling games. It is so shit. In future I'll pirate rather than use Steaming Shit.

Dylan, Thu, 06 Jan 2011 10:18 pm:
Why is steam so fucking shit?

I just bought a game, and now I cant play it because steam wont update upon install...
what a fucking waste of time and money!
All because some fucked up company wants to stroke their ego and create some monopoly over games.

I paid money for a disc with some entertainment on it. But no no no! I cant actually USE it!
Steam doesn't work so my game doesn't work.

What a fucking piece of shit steam is.
I hate you steam.

Fuck you, you fucking assholes.

Dylan, Thu, 06 Jan 2011 10:35 pm:
I wonder if steam developers ever actually read forums. And Im talking any forums related to steam.

They would soon realise that their "Best thing to hit online gaming" is actually probably the worst.

Fuck you.

Marco, Fri, 07 Jan 2011 02:19 am:
I just read this article of someone and I knew Steam is a great STEAMing pile of shit:

"Continuing the story, my friend then went to Valve's forum to try and explain that he has nothing to do with it. Guess what? His topic was locked with the same message that he got by e-mail. And since then, all his support tickets were ignored as well. [...]
Finally, my friend posted in another forum, where he attracted enough attention so that a Valve representative came there and noted that. After that, he was given access to Steam back shortly."

Source: http://greatemerald.xmpcommunity.com/index.php/articles/general-articles/103-steam-subscriber-agreement-controversy.html

Wow... what an asshole support.

steam fucking sucks. why does some fat greedy fuck force me to run steam on a game i bought the disc for? if i wanted to buy shit through steam i would. but i didn't, so i don't want their shitty program fucking with my games. fuck you, steam.

dinner dog, Tue, 11 Jan 2011 08:09 pm:
Today i purchased Order of War at EB games for $36.I was aware that steam was needed to activate the game and thought i would be able to do so without difficulty. The actual installation of steam went smoothly but as i tried to register the game Steam rudely demanded to be updated. So i thought it would not be a problem and went to go get a drink. When i returned the update was still on 0% so i gave it a few more minutes however it simply refused to load.I closed the window and then tried again to no avail. After 3 more tries the loading bar never raised above 10%.So after purchasing the game from a legitimate retailer i now cannot even play it because some fat american corporate pig(Gabe Newell)and his horde 40 year old virgin, computer programming, basement dwelling, penny pinching henchmen(valve corporation employees) are paranoid about losing a few dollars from people copying games. These fucking scum of the earth are a plague on the pc games industry and are forcing people to pirate games. One day i hope some ambitious young gamer kills them all,in fact i hope Gabe Newell is kidnapped, tied up in a basement and forced to swallow cheap rusty razor blades so he dies a slow painful death as the razors tear up his rotten insides. However short of brutally slaughtering the lot of them i hope that eventually gamers will come to their senses and boycott Valve and make the bastards go bankrupt. After all its more than what they deserve..........

r0n, Thu, 13 Jan 2011 12:30 pm:
Well, i usually use D2D, it has a download manager, but you are not forced to use it. I had never used steam before but was tempted into it by dawn of war 2 gold edition for £19.99 a good price for DAW2 + chaos rising i thought.. I really really really really really really really really wish i had seen this site before i gave those fuckers money. fuck its a joke that is not making me laugh.
Oh and no refunds, even tho a game that I more than beat the minimum specs for is acting all glitchy even in minimum settings with gfx card on compatibility mode. With a few exceptions that are stated on the games page, D2D do actually do refunds if you talk nice to them and can show them using words that your not a total fucktard and have tried to get the game work (they refunded me on call of cthulu)
So , we got 2 legit dl sites, direct to drive and steam, one of them has decent customer service and does refunds, does not require any additional software to play your game, and does not require you to connect to the internet before playing.
the other one has a resource hungry unstable launcher that harasses you every time you turn on your PC, horrible customer service, ties the games to the horrible software so you cant play them without loading it, and if your internet goes down or there servers go down YOU CANNOT PLAY YOUR GAMES??? how the fuck, how the fuck are these guys getting obvious love from game publishers in terms of the deals and exclusivity deals they seem to get compared to D2D????
Same here, Sat, 15 Jan 2011 07:18 am:
Other publishers just love Steam because there are enough stupid users who buy games via this crap software. Just seeing how this Valve retards make people buy games for shitty cosmetic items for this boring Team Fortress game proves that.

beri, Fri, 21 Jan 2011 12:10 am:
Just die of heart failure already, Gabe Newell. That asshole took the time to respond to a valid complaint I had about problems with my country's payment methods by sending me some snarky smartass "tough shit", essentially, email reply - PERSONALLY.

What a dick. I put up with the stupid program running all the time and slowing my PC down, but I won't give any more money to that clown.

dawkinsdisciple, Wed, 26 Jan 2011 08:02 pm:
i have a steam account. i paid 100 monies to play civ v. i cannot play my game due to a 15 hour wait time for forced updates and am getting quietly furious.

i have currently been trying to play this game for 5.5 hours now. still waiting for updates. this happened the last time i tryed to play it, a couple of hours before a flight. and before that. and a couple of time before that...

can you tell me steam why the f*** i want to wait 15 hours to play civ v?! when i'm at work tomorrow morning?!?!? are you condoning a bad work ethic? i want to play this f****** game now, not in 15 hours, now! i payed one hundred monies to play this game to relax and enjoy myself not to bust a nut trying to play it and get solicited in the process!!!

while i've been waiting to play my game, which i paid a hundred dollars for, i am signing up to forums and bitching to the internet at large trying to get this s*** to work.

f*** you douchebags, if i can't get this working i'm off looking for a pirate version.

Fucking brilliant! I can't stop laughing.
micorsoftshit, Tue, 12 Jan 2016 03:25 pm:
you are one stupid fucktard. Don't take much to make your pea brain laugh? Here's a joke for you... look in the mirror (laugh away asshole).

What useless shit, Thu, 10 Feb 2011 04:41 am:
Seriously... what the fuck? The installation of those fucking Steam games takes for eve!
The intallation of COD4 + 1.6/1.7 patch (non Steam of course!) takes 20 minutes maximum... But in Steam a 7GB game (like COD4) takes up to 5-8 hours... why? Because the CD you bought is totally useless and is just for installing Steam(ing pile of shit) and the game key... the game itself has to be downloaded via this crap software. That's the dumbest shit I've ever seen and I'm not going to buy another game that needs Steam ,,|,,

jr, Fri, 11 Feb 2011 03:58 am:
GFWL and Steam are the reasons I started pirating games. If I pay for something, I refuse to put up with all that DRM bullshit monitoring me all the fucking time.

So now I just pirate it all. I don't even buy it then crack it because almost all of it is tied to some online client like steam even if I buy the hard copy. Fuck all you online DRM jerkoffs.

Brett, Sat, 19 Feb 2011 10:35 am:
Id rather play fucking Pac Man then play STEAMing shit games. Fuck Steam and their Nazi like , fucked up software.

Bastards, Sat, 19 Feb 2011 11:23 pm:
Steam sucks. I bought the game Fallout New Vegas and just it makes me loose the time with updates. I don't even care about WHO DON'T BUY THE GAME, i care about I BOUGHT THE GAME NOT FOR LOOSING TIME UPDATING... BASTARDS!

benir, Tue, 01 Mar 2011 08:55 am:
I recently closed my Steam account because I got sick of the endless updates when I only have an hour or two for games a day. They sometimes take more than that for a single game's update...

Now I torrent games and don't have to put up with any of the bullshit. Plus, my computer runs a lot smoother without Steam eating up all the resources. Win-win!

Anyone happy with Steam must have a lot of free time and patience and a liberally lubed up anus.

001101010001, Sat, 05 Mar 2011 06:12 pm:
I was reading this today - http://www.reddit.com/r/gameswap/comments/fxgbz/attention_all_steam_users/
If the link dies, it's basically about a guy who posted on reddit (typically a mindless fanboy circlejerk for steam) that he wanted to sell his games and wondered what he could get for them. No selling took place but someone at Steam saw it and disabled his whole account. All games worth around $1000 gone for good because they say so.

Some people have to learn the hard way what a bunch of crooked fucks they are over at Steam. It's not bad enough that the program is shit, they are happy to rob you of all your games at any time too.

These guys are pure scum.

Danzul, Sat, 05 Mar 2011 07:43 pm:
Seriously, I have wanted this game for a while (Civ V) I go to the game store to buy it and take it home, place it in my drive click all the options, all good then Steam pops up...im like wtf do you want "Hello I'm Steam ive raped Sid Mier and took over his franchise now I want to rape you to make matters worse I was capped so I couldn't install it for like two weeks I finally got it working after like 5 patches and all was good, then I got capped again it was o.k still could connect then the latest Steam patch comes barging onto my computer screen im like WTF WHEN DID I ALLOW A FUCK LIKE YOU TO POP UP ARGHHHHHH!!! Another thing the box has 'requires steam" in fine print you cant even see it then I realized if they had it where you could actually notice it...no one would buy it LOL

idiot_who_uses_steam, Fri, 11 Mar 2011 09:50 pm:
I've fucking had it with steam. The updates are fucking retarded.

Here's my SOP:

1. Decide on a Friday night to play a game
2. Try to play the game
3. *Scratches head wandering why I have to run this other application called steam just to play this other application that is my game that I paid for*
4. Oh shit my ISP is playing up, steam needs internet (WTF? I can't play without internet?)....*goes and restarts router*
5. Okay time to play.... oh wait STEAM DROPPED A "WE HAVE RETARDED DEVELOPERS" BOMBED ON ME AGAIN aka ... "Downloading steam update". Didn't this shit happen the last 50 fucking times I tried to play my game?(I DIDN'T WANT STEAM, I WANTED TO PLAY A GAME. FUCK OFF STEAM)
6. Type "Steam is fucked" into google and leave this comment

Resolved now to never buy anything from steam again.I was a doofus for ever buying into steam.

Steam? More like the steam that rises off a pile of shit.

steaming mad, Tue, 15 Mar 2011 05:54 pm:
Fuck. I wish I had seen this page before I went out and bought several games for my first, freshly built, gaming PC. Almost every game I bought needs steam to run and the steam client keeps fucking up and forcing me to update everything like 15 times before I can even run the game once!
I'm looking up cracks as of right now. I can't believe PC gamers put up with this crap.

Azazel, Thu, 17 Mar 2011 01:58 am:
Bought dead space 2 waited for ages for it to come out ..... Had to download the whole frigin game before it would work. Bought homefront today same story am waiting for steam to fownload the whole game and tpday is release day shit shit shit

JohnnyDust, Thu, 24 Mar 2011 06:58 am:
Hear hear! Steam is indeed one of the worst pieces of software design, put together by 1s and 0s ever.
I have a crisp new computer, nearly nothing ever crashes, I have had maybe one or two crashes in the first two months, on around ten diffrent games, and I have most certainly been putting it to work.
So do you know what can stall my system so badly, windows taskmanager cant even shut it down, and I'll have to resort to the dreaded reset button? That's right, you guessed it. Steam. I don't care what's one there, how many exclusive rights they have, what sort of deals they offer, I've uninstalled it, and I will most likely never install it again, if I have something to say about it.
I mean, I first used steam when Half-life 2 came out, several years ago, and I thought it sucked pretty bad back then, but then again, my computer probably wasnt quite up to the task (of anything, that is.). But then I come back around in 2011, thinking "Ah, it's been a long time, they're bound to have it running smoothly by now.". Stupid me. It's damn near worse than ever. I mean, what sort of application can stall a system so bad, that no other application can function, and not even the OS on which it is running is able to kill it? I can't even get a hold of google in my browser, when that piece of ill constructed code goes awol. Valve, I salute you with my middlefinger. Take your crap and keep it. Douchebags.

JohnnyDust, Thu, 24 Mar 2011 07:03 am:
And just to add insult to injury, I'm done uninstalling the games and the app, first crysis 2 demo (which never worked, appearently they shut it down a couple of days before I downed it, thanks for the heads up steam), then halflife2 and finally the steam app itself, it leaves a pile worth 7½gb useless data where the games and app once was. I told you to uninstall, UNINSTALL! Its a fancy word for delete!!! So delete it, you miserable compilation of useless 1s and 0s! ARGH! D:< (If I'm ever at a party, and I'm talking software development with a guy, and he tells me he's working at Valve, I'm gonna punch him in his mouth soooo hard....)

RC, Sun, 27 Mar 2011 03:18 am:
Steam sucks ass - just bought a game for £50 and now I've spent the last 4 hours trying to download the game I just payed for and is sitting in my drive! WTF!? After the download it crashed and didn't install, now i have to retry.
FUk me backwards, retarded cunting cokmunchers.

DJP2011_USA, Thu, 31 Mar 2011 04:27 am:
Those folks supporting Steam always seem to have an argument from the point of view of having actually used Steam. They are missing the point when they make statements like “…downloads are automatically done for you”. It can be argued that using crack cocaine is great… if you are a user.

Steam and the like go against the idea of freedom. The debate on whether Steam is good or bad is much like the ongoing debate between liberalism and conservatism. "If you're 20 and not a liberal, you have no heart... If you are 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain".

I say… "If you're 20 and do not love Steam, you’re not a liberal... If you are 40 and like Steam, you have no brain"

I’ll never buy into the communistic idea of buying a game that uses Steam. I have not purchased a game in over 12 years and decided to take another stab at PC gaming after being away from it for a decade. What a mess it’s turning into. Here’s a list of things I consider good things about my old games:

1. I could and still do have a tangible good to hold in my hands (or use as a door stop if I wish)
2. I can play my old games when and where I wish
3. I don’t have to download patches if I don’t want them
4. I don’t need an internet connection to play a game
5. No usernames or passwords
6. No big brother (don’t try to argue this one… my old gamming PC was never attached to the internet
7. No firewall problems or router secured port conflicts
8. I got a chance to get out of the house and go to the old brick and mortar building
9. Total FREEDOM
10. etc…

This does not touch on the problems that Steam has if you were to buy into the concept. Things like you have to be online to play offline. Does that make sense? Trust me when I say that with certain games, even when you think you are playing offline, your internet connection still needs to be alive. Try playing CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS ZOMBIE mode offline with your network card disabled.

It’s an uphill battle being that most of the gaming world is filled with kids who just don’t know any better. My only retaliation is not to buy these games and I will not. I’m sticking with my 12 year old games for now.

I love Steam Because I con play whatever game I want to without having to keep a stack of them nearby. As for the Updating and installing, well it is your fault for not having a good enough computer OR enough patience to WAIT for your game. It's like listening to kids whine about toys. It is not that important, waiting will not make the world explode.

trololololo

But seriously, comparing people to whiney kids for not having all day to wait for updates and buggy software? Sounds like you're the kid who doesn't understand most adults don't have the luxury of all that free time.

Ok so I bought Fallout New Vegas because I enjoyed the Fallout series, and figured the same as everybody else, yeah; install it, play the fu<king game.

As of this moment, I'm downloading like 3 gag damned gb's of "updates", before I can even play the damned thing. I supposedly have to be online, or else have internet capability, in order to play a singleplayer game...

I've purchased PC games for over 7 damned years, in around every genre there is, and I've Never seen any shit like this! What in The hell.

So yo, people over this STEAM horseshit...

I have never in all of my game purchases, see anything like this.
I don't think I've Ever went through with boycotting a product in my entire life. But by fucking dammit, I will Not EVER buy another game that requires This sort vile pig's shit.

I am not putting up with this bastardly garbage. If I want to play a multiplayer game or download a patch, I'll download the fucking patch or I'll download the updates when I log in to play the multiplayer. Otherwise, I expect to be able to play a single player game off motherfucking line.

You all, can kiss my ass. I bought your damned game to play it singleplayer, and I SURE AS HELL don't expect you sons of whores to be eating up MY gag damned limited monthly bandwidth, and putting Me into paying internet overage charges, just to play your shit.

I was very tempted just to throw this shit in the trash as well. You bastards just jack your peckers off over the fact I like the Fallout series. Tell you this one things for damn sure, I'm not going to buy anything else that uses STEAM. And if this stinking twice-puked shit out of a dog's ass "idea" of yours, crashes on me and I can't get my fucking money's worth of enjoyment out of this game, I am going to go on every fucking forum I know of as well as all people I know who are gamers and tell them just what I think of your bullshit, and I'm not just talking either.

You can all kiss my ass, and you all burn in hell.

People want to play Portal 2? Hell I don't want to because it's the same shit as the first one (only with co-op).

tell your retarded steam support prick to go stick a pinecone up his ass and torent all valve games, crack them and play them for free, as a big fuck you to steam, if you wanna rob me of thirty notes then im going to steal every game in your fucking store!! and then once cracked im going to redistribute these items to all public for free. no hassel, no virus, NO STEAM.

I have used Steam for the past two years and I can tell you all something. I have yet to find something better than it. To put a few things straight, I have a physical copy of Duke Nukem Forever. I used the key with Steam and bam, it's on my games list and I play can play it instantly, no need to install anything. If I was to play on a different computer without the CD, I could install it, or bring the CD and play (after I log in, of course.) People argue that you have to wait for updates that they don't want to download. There is an option to disable updates for that game or all games. If you have bad Internet and don't want the game to take several hours to install, of course, buy the CD. You can play all your games offline, as long as you have saved your credentials on the computer. I mean, come on, it's not like you should be allowed to give the game out for free to everyone, seeming as you can have unlimited virtual copies. Steam is also free to use, whereas the Playstation 4 and Xbox One have monthly subscription fees. Lastly, in case you've forgotten, you need to update games to play online on the consoles too, it's not just a Steam "problem."
Thank you for reading.
stopmakingexcuses, Tue, 27 May 2014 09:49 am:
I've been using steam for over 9 years...

It's complete trash, even considerably less reliable than Origin.

It provides no truly unique features, rather just 'convenient' nonsense for the incompetent.

Inconvenient, Mon, 10 Feb 2014 03:02 am:
Consoles give you the option to skip updates to play a single player game. Instead of being forced to sit and wait for auto-updates at inconvenient times.

The disable auto updates feature is broken as many will agree, and will still try to update them as soon as steam is connected again. while giving you no option or choice.

offline mode is not a solution for such an online dependent piece of software.

What happened to just putting a single player game in your computer and playing when you have a spare half hour.

(why are games developers creating games at are not finished and need a ton of updates anyway, and still demanding full price for them) = unfinished work - when did a snes game ever need updates.

Inconvenient BS

One day we'll look back on all this frustration and wonder why we put up with it. Is there anybody in charge of Steam?

Do they care that it's upsetting their customer base? It seems that its whole existence has been engineered to prevent pirates from playing games rather than looking after the people that actually pay for them ie; paying customers.

WAKE UP !

Pirates would never pay for damn games anyway so youre not losing any revenue. If you had any business sense you'd scrap Steam and revert back to protected discs. That was enough of a disincentive to 90% of players to bypass the copy protection.

Your strategy is costing you serious lost revenue.

Albert, Mon, 26 May 2014 04:45 am:
I also hate Steam. Every time I buy a PC game, I hope to be able to play it right away or at least within a reasonable amount of time. 30 minutes max, for the installation. Thanks to Steam, it usually takes 2 days. Part 1: The Steam installation process. If Steam does not detect an active account, it simply fails to install. But there is no error message. The program will just say 'Updating' forever and ever. If you do create an account, you then have to verify it. Again, Steam has no error checks whatsoever. It will just display a generic status page. The next step is activation. The steam servers are always busy and it can take 20 or more attempts to contact them. The activation timeout is set to 60 seconds. So that's 20 minutes of lost time. If activation is successful, you are then 'allowed' to download the game files. Fun fact: I bought the Amazing Spiderman 2 CD and all I found on the CD were the steam installation files. The whole game had to be downloaded! Looking and the thread of messages, we can see that the problem has been around since 2009 and they haven't changed a thing. Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish. Next time if I see a 'Steam' or 'Valve' logo on the box, I'm not going to buy the game.

ehdouieg, Wed, 04 Jun 2014 09:57 pm:
Wow, so many butthurt valve fanboys in comments, cos someone said something bad about Steam.

But seriously, I'm tired of this shit. I used to like Steam until the "new" UI update, after that, Steam became total glitchy crap, it was glitchy before, but now? Wow. It's not even that Steam i think, but their servers are shit. After all that years, they cannot efford better servers? Sometimes, website won't refresh, or you get error, uploading screenshots doesn't work sometimes. you search for friends, sometimes you get, sorry this service is unavailable right now (or something like that).

I liked Steam only for multiplayer games of course, easier to join friends. and chat with them while in game.

But since year 2007, Steam got too many annoying fanboys. It wasnt that bad in 2007. But now they are everywhere, say something bad about Steam or Valve on Steam forums, you get attacked like nothing. Steam / Valve fanboys became even bigger and more annoying than call of duty fanboys. They say shit like, ohhh Valve safed PC gaming from a DRM and PC gaming generally! (what a pathetic losers). How did they safe PC gaming?! And how the fuck did they safe it from DRM?

STEAM IS DRM, ALWAYS ONLINE DRM YOU LITTLE VALVE PIECE OF SHIT FANBOYS!!! I don't care it has offline mode, for offline mode, you have to be atleast once online, and have automatic login enabled.

Also, you buy games on steam, but you don't own them, you just rent them. You can't sell them, or they will block your account if they find out. (How pathetic valve is).

How pathetic that shitty company like this have so many fanboys.

So yeah, they can take these games away from you anytime they want, and block your account. They can also block you (or atleast trading / buying / gifting ability) if you are from USA or Russia, and you gift / trade games a lot to people outside of USA / Russia. (because games are cheaper in USA and mainly Russia, so they lose money like that), cos every intelligent user of Steam knows, that Valve is greedy as fuck, like other shitty companies.

Just FYI, i liked Valve, many years ago, but I'm not gonna overlook that shit they do. I'm not brainless fanboy.

And let's not forget, you rent games on Steam and they costs the same as normal retail games. (But Steam gets a lot of good sales, but just bait you know, it's good for them to put some game on sale, more sales, more cash). But still good for users if they wanna get cheap games.)

You lose your steam account, you lose all your games (I'm sorry, not your games, after all, you don't really own them on steam).

Shame to that little brats that support Valve and Steam. And you know what's funny? These idiotic fanboy will even call you brainless and all. Ohh the irony...

And now they added Steam Trading Cards, and these little shits buy that. What is "Steam Trading Cards"? Virtual Cards that Valve made to earn more $. Stupid assholes buy them, and they get higher Steam lvl, some badge / achievement and probably higher EGO.

Let's talk about Valve itself. PC fanboys, their fanboys and other assholes consider them to be best game developers.

But what they've done so good? Steam? Garbage. Games? They made just Half-Life games. Yes that's right, only Half-Life. Did you think they made Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead and others? Oh you lil silly.

Team Fortress was first QUAKE mod, Valve hired guys behind TF mod or something to make them TF.

Left 4 Dead was announced in 2006 by Turtle Studios, Valve bought Turtle Studios in 2008, the same year L4D is released, Valve took all the credit, like for all "their" games they didn't make.

Portal? Valve hired some guys that made some game which is like portal (i can't remember it's name) to make them Portal.

Free game Alien Swarm, it was first Unreal TOurnament mod, Valve hired these guys for that game.

Counter Strike was Half-Life mod, Valve hired these guys behind it, or just got the right for Counter-Strike. Maybe Counter-Strike creators just went to Valve, it doesn't matter.

What matters is, Valve made only Half-Life. (I hope they did. :D)

Did I forget some game? I hope not.

Valve always take credit for things they didn't make. I'm sorry, but for example L4D should say Developer: Turtle Studios, not Developer: Valve. Valve like made only Valve logo into that game.

Let's not forget, Valve turned TF2 into hat simulator, and just generally in-game mini transactions cash grab. The same with counter-strike.

That reminds me, Dota 2, Warcraft mod.

If you don't believe me, I found this now also, this guy say it perfectly. http://0verhyped.com/2012/04/17/discussing-valve-and-how-theyve-become-the-george-lucas-of-gaming/

I'm sure I forgot something to mention, but I can add it later.

Don't support Valve and Steam, I know there are some games that you can play only on Steam, but if you have a choice, buy retail copy instead, or awesome digital drm free alternative is www.gog.com

In other words, fuck Valve, fuck Steam, fuck their fanboys, fuck Origin, and fuck every other DRM shit like Steam.

I'm using Steam since 2007 btw, for games that are available only on Steam. But Steam and Origin are the last places where I would buy any game. Ever better choice, don't buy them at all from Steam.Vote with your wallet, don't support them. Valve are greedy shits, like the others (EA, Activision, Capcom, etc...)

Older people will remember the old times, when you bought your game for a console, or PC, and you was able to even borrow them, you actually owned them. No some online shit, all offline.

Stupid little kids can support Steam further...

I don't even buy games from Steam / Origin anymore. The more I know about Steam and Valve and their fanboys, the more I hate Steam.

I'm not english though, don't complain about it.

I quite agree. Just bought Portal 2 from a store today and after I installed it, guess what? IT HAS TO INSTALL A F*CKING UPDATE!!! I looked up the Portal 2 folder in SteamSteamAppscommon and THERE WERE JUST EMPTY FOLDERS IN IT! IT TOOK TEN MINUTES TO INSTALL "10GB" AND ALL IT DID WAS CREATE EMPTY FOLDERS WITH THE SIZE OF 100KB!!!!!

Downloading the "update" right now. I hope it doesn't have to download that f*cking Source SDK 2007 too, then I'd be REALLY pissed. I like the Source Engine, it provides awesome graphics and performance, but why do some Source games like the Half Life remake "Black Mesa" require a f*cking SDK to run!? I seriously don't get it!
BoxBuilder999, Fri, 14 Nov 2014 09:21 am:
Portal 2 uses the new "Steampipe" format, which groups everything into VPK files in the base Portal2 folder. Most folders are kept for in case you want to add in custom files.

Black Mesa is not an actual 'game' per say, it is a Source modification. Source mods are not standalone; they have no engine files or executable to run. As such, they require the Source SDK to be able to play the game because the SDK includes the necessary files in order to play it.

This system is so that
1) You can't play Source mods without a Source game (circumvented with the free SDKs)
2) Instead of each game having an identical version of the engine/executable/etc. files and using up more space, all you need is the game folder in your Sourcemods folder and it will automatically run any of the mods using the single executable and engine files.

Don't forget about Steam exclusives. People that don't wanna Steam, but want to play the game that is only on Steam are fucked. Even my most favorite game series are now released only on Steam. Thank you very much (not). And this morons keep wondering why people pirate games. Whoever defends Steam is just a total retard or a fanboy. Oh well, they don't understand what it is like to borrow your games, sell them, trade them, or install them on multiple PCs and play at the same time. And play offline. Steam = always online DRM. DRM = Digital Restrictions Management. And don't even mention crappy Steam offline mode. You need to save account credentials on your computer for it to work. Which means I think if someone on your computer log in to another account, it won't work. At least that's what happened to me. I had auto-login, Steam had some server problems, so it didn't allow me to login and it took me to the login window, so disabled auto login. So later, I wanted to login offline mode, cos my internet didn't work for 1 week, guess what, I wasn't able to login. So I wasn't able to play games from Steam for one week. Thank you very much shitty Valve. Years ago, when I had new PC, I didn't have internet yet, I bought some game, it requied Steam, so internet too, I wasn't able to play.

It's a good feeling when you sell your Steam account. But do it carefully, or those fuckers will perma ban your account, since you don't even own games on Steam.

Thank god for websites like gog.com and retail game copies (that are dying slowly).

Just pirate everything Steam exclusive, don't give that greedy losers your money. Valve and its fanboys need to fucking die, to make this world better at least a little. Tired of these assholes screaming how Valve makes PC gaming better (LOL) while they're sucking Gabe's dick. Many Valve / Steam fanboys are little children, at least mentally, so...

And don't even let me talk about the joke named Steam Trading Cards and how many assholes buy them. :DDDD Steam has the worst community ever. That's why you will see so many of them in games like Dota 2 etc...

Please parents, keep your little brats off of the internet. And don't buy them computer games. They are the reason why gaming is worse and worse.
MrTalithan, Fri, 02 Jan 2015 09:12 am:
Steam doesn't require you to be online all the time. It just requires the program to be RUNNING.

Learn the fucking difference.

Oh, and for the record, you can play your Steam games on another computer, provided you go through a very simple authorization process of checking your fucking email.
The reason Steam won't allow you to freely log into an unrecognized computer without authorization is for account security.

Selling Steam accounts is against Steam's EULA, and as such engaging in that activity is illegal and punishable by permanent bans. In fact, almost every online game ever prohibits the selling of accounts. Get over yourself.

Servers go down for games all the time, just look at League of Legends, the PSN, Xbox One. All of them have had their servers knocked offline repeatedly in the past several months. Guess what: Can't do much on either console without an online connection. If you're seriously bothered by a bunch of minor nuances that don't really bother any sane individual, you need to be institutionalized.

Morons like you are the reason the human race's overall intelligence is decreasing with every generation. Do the world a favor and stay out of the gene pool.

Keep in mind I am in no real way defending Steam, I am simply destroying every piece of your argument because your argument has as much foundation as a house on stilts, so your argument of "you're just a fanboy" and "total retards" won't work.

Al Palacinka, Fri, 15 Aug 2014 02:29 am:
Also it's hilarious how some game developers / publishers replace the windows logo with Steam logo on their game(if the game is released only on Steam).

If you are going to release a game on windows PC, then at least release it truly on windows!!!!!! Steam should be optional!!! But they love their DRM so much. Steam is even worse than SecuROM etc... With SecuROM, and other DRMs like this, I can atleast install and play the game offline. Borrow the game, sell it, trade it. And do whatever I want with it.

Then you'll find all those Steam fanboys screaming how much they love their Steam with all that restrictions that comes with it.

Most of these naive fanboys (if not all) actually believe Valve care about them. Realize they care only about your money, like every other greedy company. Stupid people remain stupid...

I'll return the favour of replying to someone (you) months after they have commented...and moved on.
Just like you probably have.
Ragging people who for the most part have legitimate complaints and suggesting you are one of the smart ones who can breed is beyond rude.
My 3 kids plays many games on the family PS4. We don't allow PSN access for consoles due to our poor bandwidth but they do just fine without it.
So yes on a console that I am familiar with, internet access is not required.
My son has his own Xbox 360; again no internet but again, he enjoys many games on it.

I think a lot of the comments on this thread came about when Steam had connection and stability issues back in 2010. Now in 2015 when you are commenting, some facets of Steam are better but not all.
I agree with much said here, big brother (Steam required to be ON for offline games), poor coding (taking forever to update itself and extract files & not show that it had frozen - happened minutes ago), almost zero support (from what I can see on the site its a wall).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
On to my beef with Steam . . .
I am disappointed the PC gaming industry has got to this. Steam seem ignorant or just don't care that some (many?) customers do not have whiz-bang fast internet.
I have a speed which allows banking, browsing and like today, mediocre speeds for downloading of updates and an actual game. I am old school and actually thought I was buying a DVD and when it didn't arrive in the mail, I questioned the retailer. Now I have to download a huge file. Well I got caught this time through ignorance but never again. This little black duck only gets caught once. Next I will email the makers of the game (Rebellion) and tell them that I won't be buying anymore of their games unless they are able to play separated from Steam. I will buy games that do not require internet (of any type) to play.
I suggest others do the same. If everyone on this site did that after getting the shit off their liver, things might be a little different.
From what I read here, LAN parties must be off the menu these days too. Again, that's disappointing for many I would think.

Fuck Steam, Thu, 16 Apr 2015 11:05 pm:
Fuck Steam! They have som much money but still there are server issuses!

Daniel Rutter, Sun, 19 Apr 2015 12:05 pm:
Hello There :)

I have been looking at this post for many years now, dwealing over the fact that Steam continues to abuse its users, me included, when they forced a ban of my PayPal account to ever be used again after winning a refund against them through PayPal over a game that was about to release in 4 days and was completely unplayable, I ended up having enough of the bull involved with just trying to buy a decent game that I could actually play and have fun with. The situation at hand led me to found my own website a few months back that has grown rapidly in development with a 21 Days Refund Policy For All Users - No Questions Asked, VIA PayPal at this time, though we intend to back it up with an Automatic Refund Button with our own Payment System named the Universal Credit System (UCS) at a later date in time. If you are interested in a "Netflix For Gamers Type System" built entirely using secure, high-tech technology that offers Online/Offline Modes with little downloads, as we have invented our own technology via our InternetOS (built almost entirely Client Side with powerful security/technology and literally just using DIV's for the most part! If you know how genius that is :) Then you should also like to know that the site governs a Desktop Version, plus Mobile & TV Verions / Built To Automatically Adjust To All Resolutions, via logging in just with your Mobile Phone and nothing else, none of that Malogony! That is Built For Privacy, Security & Saving You Money by working to bring you the best quality games at the lowest possible price we can ask Developers to submit. They check us our at PrivateSaver.com / www.privatesaver.com/gamefinder

The website will be released either today on 19th April 2015 or some days after, we just need to finish a couple of things related to developed such as the submission form for Users & Developers to submit their games :) Keep in mind I spent around 5000+ hours (I lost count, I just live to built this now due to the terrible experience(s) I have when resulting back to the only real PC alternative to play games = Steam :D). I built this system from scratch and now have my Brother looking into sorting out the finishing login system, as it is always best to get a second look at the code before public release by a Professional Programmer/Freelancer :), we believe in Customer Satisfaction as I myself am aiming to become a fully fledged Game Designer/Developer myself, so when I was left with a "Rumoured 60 - 80% charge by Steam, I decided to drop ours down to 20% Commission per a sale and thats it, simple, 80% > Dev's, 20% to us :) NO BS! Which should in turn hopefully mean lower prices for Users :)!

Daniel Rutter, Wed, 29 Apr 2015 12:37 am:
Hello there again, I did notice a couple of spelling mistakes onto the second paragraph, yet this was because I cared so much about getting this info to you at literally 3 - 4 AM where I am, in the Morning :) The site is taking a while to get done due to the very nature of making sure everything is in check for completion/non-abusiveness via users which just should not exist! The site itself was built for security in mind from the start, I got fed up with Steam's constantly bugs and problems, that I eventually just spent the rest of these 2 - 3 months of my life building PrivateSaver.com, the system has had a change in the refund policy, as we are using PayPal at this time, as well as our own Universal Credit System (UCS) later, it has been changed to a case by case refund, though we still intend to shove on an 21 day automatic refund policy at a later date in time. We also only want to put up the best quality games without being lets say, bribed to put up the top games as those who pay us the most... NO! We are about Fairness & this means the smallest game should also be able to get the same ranking structure as the biggest :) We are looking at more affordable prices with the best returns for the Developers of the games we sell directly to you, this is why our commission remains at only 20%! I can safely say the login system is done, it just needs a few changes and also the Submit Game Form is done to a point of rebuilding it for compatibility with Mobiles and TV's, this all means that we are nearing closer and closer to completion, keep in mind that we intend to have a system capable of providing instant downloads and 100% compatibility over all systems, so you should be able to play Mount & Blade: Warband on your TV through your Web Browser > Our Site, Instantly, as well as on your Mobile Phone and also on your Desktop! We have hopefully also eliminated 100% of pirating threats out there today, but thats a story for another day :) - Make sure to check out the website/Game Finder at www.privatesaver.com/gamefinder - If I made any spelling mistakes again, NOOOOOOOOOO! :D

Mr Kyro, Thu, 07 May 2015 07:06 am:
PrivateSaver.com/gamefinder = 100% FREE GAMING % 100% NO DRM - The site just had a huge upgrade and is going into its final release stage before further development into possible Standalone Apps for Android, IOS, Ubuntu, Linux + Everything! As well as our own OS for Phones + Desktop + TV + ALL! The site itself supports Mobile, Desktop, TV + Any Standard Resolution Over Any/All Devices. The system itself is designed to launch games directly through Game Finder's launch system. There is also going to be a HUGE COMMUNITY SYSTEM added such as Text Chat, Voice Chat, Video Chat + Much More. On top of that, there is something called Hashtag App that is going to replace comments, though comments may also exist, as well as Votes where users can see what people are voting for more than ones they are not. NO PERSONAL AGENDA IS USED TO DETERMINE PAGE RANK FOR OUR GAMES - YOU ARE! PrivateSaver.com is also owned by "The People", no shareholders, no single leader, it is simply owned by "YOU", this means it will run via its own system that has yet to be made, as it is too advanced for today's world. The site is far more than gaming. The system is also in discussion as to whether or not/what is to be made Open Source, as in VIA Mega Codes = NOT OPEN SOURCE YET! But its to prevent Monopolies and establish a Governing Body For Corporations such as The PSC, The PSC stands for innovation over "Monopolised Mafia's". VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

FUCK STEAM + PIRATE PC GAMES

Why the fuck should I have to be online to play a single player game not to mention that I have the the game on disk its fucking stupid they say its to stop pirated pc games LOL if anything its increased it.

I'm surprised that Anon hasn't hacked the fuckers. Because if I could hack the fucker I would seriously Steam are killing or have killed the vibe of being able to play pc games when and where the fuck you like without being online.

I remember the good old days of gaming go to a store buy the disc pop it in to your drive wait for it to install and bam your playing the damn game but now its buy the disk from the store pop it into the drive steam pops up and fucking rapes your bandwich and to all you Steam fanboys out there that praise it I hope you all loose your games you paid for due to steam servers having a malfunction.

!!!THANK YOU STEAM FOR RUING PC GAMING!!!

Nunya Bizness, Wed, 29 Jul 2015 05:36 pm:
Steam really is a piece of shit. For whatever reason it wouldn't let me log into my account, so I had to make a new password.

Once I log in, all my games are lost. I go to search for the games, and it claims they're in my library when they're not. Then it proceeds to try and make me redownload them with an 8 hour wait.

Um no.

I'm just going to delete this shitty program and never go back.

Word will get around. Fix your shit, steam. You suck.

STEAMing Pile of Shit, Wed, 05 Aug 2015 06:59 pm:
Just wanted to also add my opinion that STEAM SUCKS and it's ruining PC Gaming.

After getting Gothic Complete Collection, a no DRM release, I was sure that I also wouldn't get any DRM with Morrowind, a 2002 game, much older than the Gothics! Little was I aware that it was a "Steam game" and the DVD is actually useless. I have more respect for Uplay. Their games install without Uplay and only afterwards do they activate online so you are able to apply a crack without any online rubbish, but Steam DVDs are ENCRYPTED! You need their shitty malware to install and play a game from 13 years ago! Thanks STEAM for wasting my money!

Nowadays, I've noticed, every new PC game you find in a store is a Steam/Uplay/Origin game. I just want to buy a game, put it in the optical drive, install, remove it from the optical drive, play. But nope, you need an online account, totally controlled by the STEAMing pile of shit.

Besides the DRM crap, Steam games are more expensive than retail despite being just a download (you can see the greed right here). I got Morrowind for 5 euro and at their store it's 20. And then they go: "OMG STEAM SALE!!! 50% OFF!!!!!!!!" Steam sale prices are more expensive than retail without a sale prices. Scammers... I can say that my optical drive was free, after saving so much money by not buying from the STEAMing pile of shit.

Valve is a greedy company 100%. Proof? STEAMing pile of shit money > Half Life 3 or making any game at all...

Another reason why piracy is so popular... even if you have and want to give them the money, you're treated worse than a pirate because of their DRM. I only play single player games and I see now that I have ZERO reasons to even give a cent for a game with online DRM. It's just needless stress. Pirates download games for free at high speeds, install and play, DRM free. Ironically, this seems like the only "digital service" that's good.

And the only thing that will stop piracy... they're already doing it very well... make crappier and crappier games, destroy PC gaming, make even a free download not worth the time...

And Steam fanboys are the worst... all retarded American kids with 1000$ video cards who have no problem wasting their parents' money.

Thank you Steam and the other greedy companies for ruining my favorite hobby. There was a time when gamers actually talked about games. Now it's PC vs console, expensive PC "Master Race" vs normal PC, consoles vs consoles, DRM, scandals and the newly overhyped releases that turned out to be crap.

Mr Kyro, Sat, 26 Sep 2015 02:23 pm:
Hi there, I am just leaving a quick note to say the PrivateSaver.com - Game Finder evolved rapidly since then and has been under top secret huge innovative buildups to keep away corrupt corporations of course :D The system surpassed Steam a while back and has went as far as becoming a content provider. This means we now make our own games as well. 100% of the system is purely about quality gaming entirely free and offline, with the option to play online also. More status updates should be here soon enough.

Koots, Tue, 29 Sep 2015 01:30 pm:
I also hate Steam with every fibre of my being. I now live in an area with no internet access, so I use mobile phones with data limits to access.

So this meant I had to stop pirating games and actually buy physical discs, but EVERY FUCKING GAME I buy seems to need Steam to activate, then needs to apply 1-2GB updated before I can even look at the game. This is 1/4 of my total monthly data plan for one game.

I was much better off pirating games and I wholeheartedly intend on doing so again when I finally get a wired connection. I bought the games so I can install from disc, never have to worry again. Not give me extra steps and extra expense just for the iTunes equivalent for games (that is not a compliment, coming from me, fuck iTunes and Steam)

So just to play a fucking game I already paid for, I now have an even higher phone bill to go along with it. Thanks for screwing over someone who actually wanted to go legit with gaming, may pirating destroy the industry because you all got too greedy and shady to just let us have the games we paid for.

Funny enough, the only sensible physical game I installed through Steam was Dishonored, which only had a 100MB update, which is nothing for a Bethesda game.

I used to hate Games for Windows Live, but they never held my physical games hostage until I updated it online.

Hello there, I am posting officially about myself - Daniel Rutter/MrKyro for our PrivateSaver.com - Game Finder. To clear things up, since Feb 5th 2015 The PSC was Founded in retaliation to Steam's Abuse towards us "Users", much of the news about this is dotted all over The Internet in Open View for you to simply find if you don't know about this already. The PSC has since then made the move to create our own Platform, Games and Entire Built-From-Scratch System and Political Basis For Everything We Do, we have kept the governing body of our Gaming Project as The PSC/PrivateSaver.com, yet changed from PrivateSaver.com - Game Finder to UGPLAT.com / UGPLAT for Universal Gaming Platform / Universal Gaming. This UGPLAT name is Trademarked in The UK and Version 1.0 of The Offline Version of this system has been complete and locked away in an evidence folder for evidence in court. At this time the process for funding and grants is underway to create our own Content Provider for Games as a whole, this means we will officially be the first in the world to intent on Mass Production of Educational Based Quality A*** related Media Content as a whole. Doing all this is about creating a fun environment for us all, yet is a hefty task for those without the expertise and knowledge in this area, but one we can easily achieve. As with the right Foundations and Basis for success comes Greatness. Personally I took up this task not knowing what The PSC would become, but since then (around 10 months ago), we have grown at an incredible rate to the process of awaiting official grants by investors for further expansion into our own possible Built-From-Scratch Splash Screen, Online Mode/API System and AI Intelligence (which will be used within games).

Steam Sux, Thu, 19 Nov 2015 03:20 am:
Gotta say that I've tried to avoid Steam until now but every single new game in a retail store is Steam/Uplay/Origin/etc. Shit times for gaming but I don't think it will change soon as majority of PC gamers get their games from torrents and Steam has loads of fanboys.

I see the internet is full of Americans saying how Steam is so superior (and Uplay/Origin suck although they're the exact same thing) and it's not even worth it to buy retail anymore. Nothing is said about people who don't have credits cards/bank accounts, their high prices (at least where I'm living in Eastern Europe games are much cheaper) and their online DRM.

I got games like 3 Ghost Recons for 7 euro, 5 Splinter Cells for 7 euro, 4 Tomb Raider games for 2 euro (the newer ones, Legend, Underworld, etc) from supermarkets, no DRM versions. I can find here even pretty new good games for 1-2 euro. At these prices I only see crappy indie games on Steam. So I see all this bad advice that you should use Steam as it's so superior and cheap and easy.

I used to think I can't buy any games because I can't afford them but now there are many many games at cheap prices. So if you want to have a game collection, don't have a lot of money and don't live in America which seems to be the heaven of Steam fanboys (dunno about US retail) sign up for shops' newsletters (check offers from time to time) and go out and check out prices in supermarkets/shops.

The industry would probably be a lot better if games were affordable. Here you can find movie DVDs for 2 euro (without a sale) and they don't have crappy DRM like games do. So we have 60 euro games that 90% pirate. Why can't we have 10 euro games that everyone buys?

Fuck Steam, Mon, 14 Dec 2015 09:57 pm:

Invasive_Internet_Account, Sun, 20 Dec 2015 11:22 pm:
I had played a few games in the early 2000's and then didn't buy one for years. Next time I got one, on disc of course, I went to install it and found that I had to get an online account, and download about 1GB. What? Are you kidding me? What a complete piece of crap. My username on the piece of crap is Invasive_Internet_Account, which is exactly what it is. I can't get a disc and play a game that I bought without a monkey ---- ---- internet account and a working connection?

Daniel Rutter, Thu, 24 Dec 2015 08:41 am:
That is all going to change! I have almost completed the first public release of UGPLAT, as you can see by my Twitter at www.twitter.com/danielruttercby :) - This is about Free A*** Gaming and breaking the mold when it comes to removing you PC and instead having games run directly through the browser, their is going to be App Verions and Software Versions ideally as well! The technology is very powerful for a start but its better than nothing!

Daniel Rutter/Arrbatos/Mr Kyro, Sat, 02 Jan 2016 02:19 pm:
I am not going to be posting here anymore as it seems unprofessional at this stage, UGPLAT is not a business as it stands at the moment so the public image here is unaffected, as this was never to evolve into an actual product in competition with Steam beforehand, but that is what has happened over the past 10 months. If you are interested in a Steam alternative created via the use of this site in retaliation to Steam's abuse as a Monopoly (founded on the reason why we are here in the first place) where Steam broke International Laws & Regulations for example in relation to refunds and more, then go to https://ugplat.com (when its live on 5th Feb 2016) and also my Twitter at www.twitter.com/danielruttercby, we are getting a Twitter for UGPLAT also after a Trademark Takedown is introduced for an inactive account we will have afterwards at www.twitter.com/ugplat - WE WON PEOPLE! UGPLAT actually stands for the Universal Gaming Platform and I know it sounds like Ugly Platform or UG PLAT but its meant to be controversial so you can joke about even though its proberly the best looking one there is and so its rememerable. It actually stands for U G PLAT in seperation and is meant to be easy to remember. The name makes sense over time :)

Steam is quite possibly the worst piece of shit on the internet. Extremely user UNFRIENDLY, constant never ending upgrades from a service with 100 KBS DOWNLOAD SPEED. REALLY? are we in the 1980's again. Verification codes do not work in any format, always something to stop logging onto games.
totally useless unless you are buying a game then very fast and user friendly, forget it when trying to play the game.
RATE''''''EXTREMELY SHITTY, SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN.

Fuck you Steam, Fri, 06 Jan 2017 04:12 am:
I heard about a guy who got his 300+ games account banned. So if I spend thousands of dollars like that guy but on a TV for instance someone from the TV company can come and hammer my TV if they want, cause I was "banned".

If you want a new game there's no way to avoid them since ALL new PC games (2015+) except The Witcher 3 use Steam, Uplay, Origin, Battle.net... FUCK THEM ALL AND AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

I hope they go bankrupt cause it's really inexcusable that almost ALL new retail PC games are linked to some online BS. But it's trendy now, I've seen some even hating on no DRM disc games cause they don't have Steam.

You could get a PS4 or Xbox One but games there are 2x, 3x more expensive. Even PS3, Xbox 360 games are expensive. And pirates couldn't crack some newer games. So if you want to play Deus Ex Mankind Divided and some others you have to use Steam.

Thanks Steam Ga(y)ming!

Honestly I think now that it's way better to download cracked versions of games than to buy it and use Steam ! As of now I don't have no cracked games but will consider it next time. on a positive note I have never been burnt by steam and can only laugh at those who are.

It's 2018 and ignorant parents are still buying greedy DLC ridden half-made games so I guess this is why they still exist.

The alternatives are GOG or Blackbeard until something is made so well and worth getting that they actually win and earn my cash because there is no other way to obtain it.

>ask the troll for a customer service rep that works at steam so you can get a refund for this broken game you just bought.

SappyGuppy, Thu, 25 Jan 2018 06:17 am:
Bought Warhammer, download and install. Game didn't run...if you are going to sell games Steam then you damn well need to support them! Same problem with another Total War game....finally got it running after 5 hours of troubleshooting with web-searches; Steam Help was of zero value.

Steam can't keep track of save files. I hit 'Continue' on Divinity Original Sin, maybe I get my quick-save from last night, maybe I get a year old save from the cloud.

Currently I cannot play Skyrim or Fallout 4 without both those games reinstalling themselves. I have their directories in my Library Path, so that is not the issue. Last time Steam overwrote my Skyrim install, it failed to recognize I was running Enderal. Steam wiped that play-through out, sticking my 9th level Enderal character back into a 'Skyrim' Environment.

I originally installed Skyrim from disk....I did not have a valve account at the time. So my use of Skyrim is entirely outside of Steam's purview. But not according to Steam. It mucks with my game all the time and now won't let me reinstall via my purchased disk copy. That's theft.

Steam is buggy, intrusive and indifferent to legalities.
